KARACHI: Four officials of the Karachi Development Authority’s (KDA) were injured while the team was conducting an operation against encroachment in the Mehran Town area of Korangi on Tuesday.
According to a KDA official, the land mafia and land grabbers stated resistance when they attempted to demolish illegal properties on government land during the anti-encroachment drive.
In result, four for the KDA officials were injured when protesters shot and plelted the team with stones.
The injured have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, while KDA officials are in the process of getting a First Information Report (FIR) registered against the land grabbers who attacked whereas, one shop and five motorbikes were burnt during the operation.
Anti-encroachment drives have been launched in all major cities of the country on the orders of the Supreme Court (SC).
Earlier on November 25, the iconic food street at Karachi’s Hassan Square was razed to the ground while a ‘grand operation’ to clean up land belonging to the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) began on Monday.
According to a report in the local media, the railways minister said that those living in those areas could be compensated, but only if funds are available. If there is no money, he claimed, he would not be liable for any compensation.
