The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the counsel of a petitioner seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Imran Khan to present arguments on the maintainability of the petition, and adjourned the hearing, a private TV channel reported. Justice Shams Mehmood heard the petition filed by Advocate AK Dogar in which he accused Imran of inciting citizens into civil disobedience during former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s term. Owing to this, the prime minister does not qualify to be a member of the parliament, the petition argued.
“Imran Khan had urged people to neither pay taxes nor send foreign remittances to country,” the petition said. “Imran along with his supporters stormed towards the Parliament House and smashed its gates,” it added. Stating that Imran worked against Pakistan’s sovereignty and political system, the petitioner urged that he be disqualified as prime minister of Pakistan. Justice Mehmood directed the petitioner’s counsel to present further arguments for the petition to be maintainable. The hearing was then adjourned for one week.
