Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif met his younger brother and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif at a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sub-jail on Monday.
“Nawaz inquired about Shehbaz’s health and the two also discussed the current political situation in the country during the meeting,” a private TV channel reported.
The PML-N president has been in NAB’s custody since October 5 in connection with the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case. The leader of opposition in National Assembly is currently incarcerated at a NAB sub-jail in the federal capital as he is on a transitory remand till November 6.
NAB has accused Shehbaz of misusing his powers while being chief minister of Punjab in an inquiry pertaining to Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC).
Later, Shehbaz chaired a meeting of the PML-N’s parliamentary party. He told the party lawmakers that the opposition had not tried to take political advantage of the situation resulting out of countrywide protests by religious groups against the acquittal of Asia Bibi last week. He criticized adjournment of the National Assembly session on Friday after a lawmaker pointed out lack of quorum juts five minutes after the start of the session. “It seems that government is showing its anger over the success of PML-N in by-elections,” he said. Shehbaz also briefed party leaders about his meeting with Nawaz Sharif. “100 days of PTI government are near to completion yet they have failed to outlay even a single economic project,” PML-N Spokesperson Maryam Aurangzaib told reporters after the meeting.
