The Minister Counselor Embassy of Republic of Korea, HE Sang Seung-Man visited the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to attend the Hangul Day (Korean Language Day) organized by the King Sejong Institute, Islamabad, and Korean Department of NUML on Tuesday. Director General NUML Brigadier Muhammad Ibrahim, registrar, directors, head of department Korean Language NUML and Director King Sejong Institute Dr Atif Faraz and large number of students also attended the ceremony.
Minister Counselor, while addressing the ceremony, said that he is honored to attend this prestigious event as chief guest in an esteemed university. He said that Korea and Pakistan have many common things in language and culture and therefore, NUML students learn Korean language very well. He was of the view that language seems to have magical powers that narrow the distance between people. The number of Korean companies investing in and trading with Pakistan is ever increasing and the velocity will be even faster in the future, he said. He further stated that thousands of scholarship opportunities are being offered by the Korean government and Korean universities for Pakistani students and rising cultural and art exchanges between Korea and Pakistan are narrowing the distance between the people of the two countries.
During the ceremony, the importance of Korean language, along with its scientific features, was highlighted and the students played traditional Korean games and sang Korean songs that mesmerized the audience.
Earlier, the Director General (DG) NUML, in his welcoming address, said that language and culture go hand in hand to bring the nations closer. NUML is promoting Korean language and culture in Pakistan and due to the similarities between Urdu and Korean, the passing ratio of our students is around 97% in HRD Korea exam, he said. The DG thanked the honorable chief guest for sparing time to attend the event.
